Daily Feline Prompt: Feline Green-Eyed Monster

Tell us about the last time you were really, truly jealous of someone. Did you act on it? Did it hurt your relationship?

Tabby on guard

“Tabby, you have a hint of green eyes.”

“And, so what Fluffy. Yours were once green as well.”

“I know Tabby. It says that we are jealous of someone if we have green eyes.”

“Fluffy, no self-respecting feline needs green eyes to be jealous. Of course we are jealous. We are jealous of the feline next door, we are jealous of the butterflies, birds and mice. We are even jealous of the humans sometimes. It is in our whiskers to be jealous. I am sometimes even jealous of you Fluffy.”

“To be quite honest Tabby, I am also jealous of you and all those other things you mentioned. I cannot imagine not being jealous. Remember the words of the great Aristotle Cat “Jealousy is both reasonable and belongs to reasonable felines, while envy is non-feline and belongs to the non-feline, for the feline makes himself get good things by jealousy, while the other does not allow him to have them by envy.”

“I am not sure I get that Fluffy, a little too much over on the philosophical horizon.”

“You see Tabby, you are just jealous of my large scope of wisdom. It is written in the book of Bastet, Chapter 20, verse 24, “All felines must be jealous, otherwise they are not a genuine feline, but just an imposter in a feline fur coat.”

“Oh, I see Fluffy, I will have to sleep that one over. Life can become very complicated sometimes.”

        • I am also diabetic (on tablets not insulin). I have had my felines for the past 13 years. there was a third feline, Nera, but she passed away last year. Of course you must be careful as a diabetic. Scratches do not heal as fast as usual, but I have more problems when cutting something when cooking with a knife, if I am not careful. The only problem with a cat I had was when I was bitten, and went immediately to the doc for a tetanus jab, but otherwise everything is OK.

          • We are both on insulin…with frequent leg cellutitis as it is. Suppose we could…but life in an apartment isn’t the same as when we had the house and yard. We still have the occasional fleas stop by—from the dogs on leashes that pass by our door. We are also on a much tighter budget…but thanks for the encouragement!

  1. Dear Tabby and Fluffy — Our human says dogs get jealous but Cesar Milan, who’s a great Dog Philosopher even though he’s human says we’re not jealous, that if dogs get jealous it’s humans messing up and forgetting to be the pack leader. But I’m a little worried because our little sister is getting old enough to try to dominate Mindy. That will mean Mindy will have more walks than I will with the puppy and that’s just not fair. Why does Mindy get more than me? Yours forever, Dusty T. Dog

No problem Dusty, just ignore the others. They do not exist, it is only you that is important. Just take a sleep if you cannot go walking, it is the cure for many problems. Forget the rest and perhaps do a little territory marking at home (don’t tell your human I told you). I am sure you will be on walkies for the rest of the day. You could, of course, bury your new little sister’s bone and not tell her where you put it. She will then have a big problem, I am sure.
      Have a good one
      Tabby and Fluffy
