Daily Feline Prompt: Because the Feline Night

Are you a night owl or are you the early bird? What’s your most productive time of day? When do you do your best work?

“Mrs. Human I do not do owls. They are too big, I am more the sparrow type. What is that on the photo?”

“It is a cockatoo, I thought you might appreciate it. I took the photo especially for you as I know you appreciate birds.”

“Mrs. Human, there are birds and birds. The sort you can trap with one paw and eat and those to be avoided as they might trap you with one claw and I do not intend to supply lunch for the crow and the family. Basically I only appreciate the taste of birds.”

“But you have to get up early to catch a bird Tabby, and then you are still sleeping.”

“Mrs. Human I never sleep, have always one ear open. You never know what could happen.”

“I always thought you slept 23 hours and spent an hour looking for a place to sleep.”

“Yes, something like that, but even then we are awake.”

“I noticed if I need the tin opener for something you are always immediately present, even if you were sleeping.”

“Tin opener means food, and it could be tuna fish. By the way do they put those cockatoos in tins? I might then be tempted.”

“No Tabby, they do not tin cockatoos. When is your most productive time of the day Tabby? You always seem to be sleeping.”

“Of course I have a productive time. Generally at midday for thirty minutes when I decided to take a breath of fresh air, before deciding where to sleep. I might even force a few dry vitamin pellets into my system to ensure that I do not die of hunger.”

“How do you know when it is midday.”

“Don’t ask silly questions Mrs. Human. All felines have an internal clock and don’t ask how. It is too complicated for a simple human brain to understand. And now I have decided to spend a few hours in a contemplative sleep. As the great Whiskers Hemingway said “I love sleep, my feline life has the tendency to fall apart when I am awake”.”

  1. Earnest Whiskers Hemingway!

Well, let me do the math here:

23 hours for sleeping. 1 hour for finding sleeping space.

When does she take her 3 baths? When does she attend catafia meetings?

When does she spread organic things in the garden?

  2. I had a cockatoo. Racket. When I lived in Israel. We also had cats. They were fascinated by the cockatoo and used to sit and watch the cage for hours. The cockatoo was a very strong bird and could have easily taken out both cats, no problem … but they made him nervous. He didn’t like the way they looked at him. Eventually we kept the cats, gave Racket to a friend. Racket became incredibly tame and very happy and the cats stopped lurking and waiting for the moment when they could get That Bird. I’m still not sure who would have gotten who, but I’d have bet on the bird.

    • The cockatoo belongs to the new owner of my austistic son’s company. The company shrunk and he has bough it and yesterday Mr. Swiss and I spent the afternoon at the company. We were so happy, as he confirmed that Patrick, my son, is his best worker and his job is definitely sure for him. Anyhow this guy has a pet cockatoo and takes it everywhere with him. Even my son allows it to sit on his shoulders, which is a big honour. It would probably be worth a blog – I took quite a few pictures.
