Daily Feline Prompt: Feline nerve

Tabby

“Tabby, there you are at last.”

“Yes Mrs. Human, here I am, I could not go anywhere because you shut me in your clothing cupboard.”

“You did not say anything, or try to get out.”

“Of course not Mrs. Human, I was sleeping in the cupboard, but imagine if you had not missed me. I could have suffocated in the cupboard.”

“Oh, actually I only opened the cupboard to remove something.”

“Oh, thanks Mrs. Human, you happened to save my life by preventing feline suffocation because you happened to need something in the cupboard.”

“But the window is now open Tabby. You can go out.”

“No rush Mrs. Human, I have to think about it. There might be a canine on the other side of the garden, perhaps there is a feline waiting for a territorial fight. It looks like it might rain and I can hear a noise in the distance.”

“I did not know you were such a nervous feline Tabby. I thought you were completely in command of all situations.”

“Of course I am, unless I am locked in a cupboard. Felines have hundreds of whiskers, each one equipped with its own ganglion with thousands of neurons. These ‘mini-brains’ are interconnected, making for a widely distributed nervous system. That is why a lost whisker may crawl on its own and even pick up signals. One of my whiskers that is deposited on the path, is telling me, do not go anywhere. Danger is lurking behind every grass blade, and above all do not chew the grass.”

“I must agree with your lost whisker Tabby. Eating grass seems to have a negative effect on your digestive system.”

“Eating grass has a very positive effect Mrs. Human, it rids me of excess waste in the form of a so-called hair ball.”

“Stop Tabby, I do not want to discuss the theory of hairball production. Losing a whisker is more agreeable.”

“It is not lost Mrs. Human, it is serving a purpose to warn me of what might happen. I have decided to stay at home. Bring me food and afterwards you can give me a tummy tickle before I sink into a timeless sleep, but keep the cupboard door open, I might sleep there. It was very comforable and quiet in the cupboard.”

    • She is always 4 paws ahead of the humans. Today she really went missing and I only realised it after lunch. she was really shut in the cupboard, but was sleeping quite happily on some pullovers.

  1. Dear Tabby, It’s a cold and windy day today and my little sister and our human are both hoping for snow. I don’t see much chance of it. I’m having a difficult time imagining being stuck in a cupboard. I suppose it’s a little like the time my human accidentally shut me in the spare bedroom. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. Dog

My human now has Denver time on her computer, because she says that is also Dusty time. so I suppose you are all tucked up on your cushions because canines are not usually out at night. I sometimes take an evening walk, but when I return Mr. Human closes my cat flap to the world so I have to wait until morning, although I don’t see the problem, but the humans say they can sleep better knowing I am safe whatever that is. I don’t even need night illuminations to see where I am going. We seem to live a life subjected to the wishes of the humans. Something is wrong somewhere, oh for the good old god days in the old country.
Sleep well Dusty, see you in your dreams – Tabby
