Daily Feline Prompt: Feline Help

“Tabby, can you help me please?”

“Huh? Mrs. Human, can you translate into a higher form of meow. I cannot find the word “help” in my meow dictionary.”

“Tabby it means doing something for me.”

“We felines are not programmed to do things for humans. Humans do things for us. And at the moment I am busy.”

“Oh, I am sorry to disturb you Tabby. What is so important?”

“It is my daily hour when I eat, and search for a sleeping place.”

“Perhaps you could find time to help me in the other 23 hours you have left.”

“Impossible, all sorts of other events could interrupt my sleeping sessions. Perhaps I have to change my sleeping position and curl up anti clockwise instead of clockwise. I might feel the necessity to put my head in between my legs. It could be that thirst overcomes me and I must interrupt my sleeping pattern to visit the drinking quell. I just cannot believe that human help could be so important to interrupt the routine of a feline. Now please don’t distrub me Mrs. Human, there are things more important than helping a mere human. You must know Mrs. Human, in the words of the feline poet Whiskers H. Auden “we are all here on earth to help others; what on earth the others are here for I don’t know”.”

“Meaning the others are humans.”

“Something like that and what is so important that my daily routine must be interrupted by the egoistic needs of a human.”

“If you must know Tabby, I was cleaning out the cupboard where I keep you food supplies and found a tin of tuna fish at the back of the cupboard. The expiry date is next week, so it can still be eaten. I thought you might want to eat it today. Next week I will have to throw it away.”

“Why didn’t you say so Mrs. Human. In that case I will make an exception to my feline rule, show me the way to the food bowl.”

  1. Ah, now I understand the blank looks from my cats when I tell them I expect a little housekeeping to take place while I’m at work. Thank you, Tabby, for clarifying the feline perspective on helping humans.
