Daily Feline Prompt: Feline Mask

Tabby

“Oww, what is that?”

“It’s me Mrs. Human, Tabby in disguise.”

“You gave me a shock.”

“That was the idea. I was just trying it out to see the effect I would have. It is for my new photo in Pawbook. All the other felines are in disguise.”

“But why do you have to disguise yourself?”

“Obvious. If I tell everyone in Pawbook that I am eating tuna fish today, tt is better to remain anonymous.”

“Why?”

“Stupid question Mrs. Human. When my Pawbook friends read it they will send a message to their friends, and it will spread and this evening there will be at least 500 felines waiting outside for a dish of tuna fish. Pawbook can be a very dangerous place to be on your pawpad. Meows spread quickly. One of my Pawbook colleagues mentioned that his human had planted catnip in the garden. Imagine Mrs. Human having 200 felines all rolling in a catnip bed in a garden, there was nothing left: not to mention the recycling process of the felines.”

“Yes, Tabby, you should really be careful what you tell other felines in Pawbook.”

“That is why I have disguised myself, please take a photo with your camera so that I can upload it. Do you think they will recognise me?”

“No Tabby, although I don’t know what felines have as a sign of recognition. Perhaps your eyes?”

“Might be, do you think I should wear coloured contact lens, perhaps in a shade of red.”

“No, I would stay with your natural colour, most felines have the same colour as you and red is not such a good colour, it might shock the others.”

“I am not most felines Mrs. Human, on the other paw it is perhaps better if I do not stand out too much.”

“But Tabby I would now remove the mask, otherwise your feline colleagues will know it is you in Pawbook.”

“Perhaps I should get a different fur coat, something in a shade of grey. I saw one online that I could order.”

“Forget it Tabby, most felines have a tabby coat.”

“Are you insinuating that I am not special, something individual, just a common Tabby.”

“Of course not Tabby, you are my tabby, and that is important.”

“OK, you are forgiven, but do not forget, I am nobody’s Tabby by my own.”

  1. Dear Tabby, At first I thought you’d dressed up as food in order to lure a large, fat starling down to have a chat with you before you pounced on him and gobbled him up. I think that would be an excellent hunting strategy along with your own fur which is perfect camouflage in the shadows of bushes. As for me, I’m only well camouflaged at night or in a dark room. And my sister Bear is only camouflaged well by snow. But we hunt by power more than by cunning. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. Dog

Problem with looking like birds is that we have quite a few of the megabirds here called crows. Luckily they only seem to eat fruit and nuts, but I would not want to put it to the test, so I am wary of speaking to anything larger than a sparrow or a tit. Starlings always arrived in packs here and sort of take over, so I am careful. you know I am not the youngest any more. I just watch and wait and pounce, although the birds always seem to fly away at their right moment.
