Daily Feline Prompt: The Feline Sky

M - Tabby

“Perfect Tabby, super photo.”

“I am not sitting up here on my look out as a photo model, I am observing my territory.”

“I would have preferred a photo with the sky as a background of course. Could you, perhaps ….”

“No, Mrs. Human I am not going outside just for a sky  background in a photo. I have my own sky inside. A sky where it  does not rain or fall on my head.”

“But skies do not fall on your head.”

“I once read a story about the sky falling on a chicken’s head, but it didn’t. She was saved by the fox and he had her for dinner.  There must be a moral somewhere in that story, but I would have eaten the chicken as well, so I might have missed the point. There are days and nights when I definitely have a feeling that the sky is falling on my head, one of the reasons why I retire to my lookout on top of the cupboard. There is only a celing above me and every thing else is below. It is probably a flashback to the days when we felines were worshipped as gods and had everything under control. And as the great feline folk singer Bob Claws Dylanpaw said “No-one is free, even the birds are chained to the sky” although I would add only until they decide to land and a feline pounces, they are then chained to part of a feline diet.”

“Are you planning to stay on the top of the cupboard Tabby?”

“It is not a cupboard, it is my refuge, the place where I have everything under control. On the other paw, would it be time for a tasty morsal of fish? You could tempt me to enter the lower plains of my realm if you could use your opposable thumbs to open a tin of tuna fish.”

“Of course Tabby would you prefer it garnished with a pinch of tarragon or just plain with a sprig of parsley, they say you eat with the eye.”

“Humans might, but as a feline I am not fussy, just put it in the bowl and leave me to it.”

  1. Dear Tabby, That is an interesting human saying. We canines “eat with the nose.” If it smells like something we like, we eat it. I imagine it is similar with felines? I envy you the ability to climb to such a lofty promontory. There is a high cupboard in our house, but I think if I tried to jump up onto it, it would probably collapse as I am a very large dog. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. Dog

We felines also eat with the nose, the stronger it smells the better. Mrs. Human gets all excited when I jump from high places. I usually don’t bother to climb up either, just a calculated leap which is another ground for Tabby cries, and you will fall and have an injury. Just because she cannot do it, it is all jealousy really. My litter sister Nera once jumped and broke her claw but it all grew back together again.
Stay low – best wishes Tabby
