Daily Feline Prompt: The Feline Layers

“Mrs. Human, remove that stupid frog.”

“I think he looks good in the garden”

“He is laughing at me dressed in his short sleeved t-shirt.”

“He is not laughing at you, it is just the way he is made with a smile on his face.”

“I am not in the mood for laughs at the moment, the word does not even exist in meow. I am hot and trying to cool down  and under the eyes of a frog, that is embarrassing.”

“Then just close your eyes and sleep Tabby and forget it is there.”

“As a member of the feline species, we do not just close our eyes when sleeping. One eye always has a small slit open in case that something might happen whilst I am sleeping.”

“What could possibly happen Tabby, when I am here to look after you.”

“Exactly Mrs. Human, that is why I keep one eye on the lookout, you tend to do other things like computer stuff and reading and are not paying attention to your slave duties.

I am very uncomfortable here Mrs. Human it is very hot. I should really have a zip somewhere to remove my fur coat in Summer.”

“I thought felines had a built in air conditioning system.”

“There you are thinking again. Action would be better. Bring me some cool water. What are you doing with that ice?”

“I thought it would cool the water for you.”

“Foget it, my taste buds would suffer. Just 4°C will do, but not less. Perhaps you could measure it with one of those thermometer things.”

“Yes Tabby, of course Tabby. Anything else.”

“Remove the frog.”

“Of course Tabby. May I now return to my computer, I am writing about you.”

“At least you are doing something worthwhile. Perhaps you could search in your computer for instructions on where the zip is to be found for a feline fur coat. No forget it. I will just have to suffer until the sun goes away.  Oh the life of a feline is arduous.”

  1. Dear Tabby, I have to say I’m not convinced by this one. My Siberian Husky sisters had very thick fur in double layers and they were never hot. They explained to me that it insulated them against heat. On the other paw, being a short haired black dog, I shed profusely in summer and I do get a little uncomfortable unlike my sisters Mindy and Bear who have long fur and are always fine. I think you might want to get an additional coat to keep the heat off, anyway, that’s what my research with my canine family would indicate. Yours always and forever, Dusty T. Dog

    • Meow Dusty
The problem is I am forced to find a cool place to shelter myself from the hot sun, and Mrs. Human does nothing to help. As a Tabby with short fur, I do not shed, but am stuck with my fur. It seems that double fur layers only occur with certain feline pedigrees and not the normal city tigers like myself. I have decided to put up with it and retire to my indoor premises to maintain my body temperature.

      • Dear Tabby, you could try my strategy. I dig a shallow hole, just my size, in a shady part of the yard. It works very well. It will also anger your human into taking some kind of action because that is NOT feline behavior. As for me, it’s just what my human expects me to do. If you try this out, let me know how it goes. Always yours, Dusty T. Dog

    • Yes.then I can tell Tabby where it is. I will have to make a special place for her to hang up her fur coat when she takes it off. Tabby said she does not do grooming, they might remove the Macdonald’s “M” on her forehead.
