Daily Feline Prompt: Feline Sidewalks

Feline exit

“This is my entrance to the outside world. To the unknown territory, danger lurking behind every stalk, every branch and every trunk. My nickname is “braveheart” Tabby, as nothing is too much for me. I overcome all obstacles, no matter what may be lurking in the undergrowth or behind a bush. I brave it all, and take my destiny in my paws. There is nothing that I do not defy. Even if my arch enemy, Roschti,  the feline next door, is exploring, I always keep an eye on his movements.”

“Tabby I was more under the impression that you kept an eye on the cat flap in case he decided to follow your movements, for a quick escape.”

“Of course not Mrs. Human, I keep an eye on the cat flap because it is there. Just a habit. My eyes and nose are pointing through the opening in the hedge, my secret path that bears only the prints of my paws.”

“But this morning I saw Roschti walk through the same opening in the hedge.”

“That was because I had given him permission Mrs. Human. He always begs for permission before leaving my territory throught this part of the hedge.”

“Sounded more like a hiss and meow sort of thing as he pushed you out of the way.”

“He did not push me out of the way. I decided to let him go and stepped to one side.”

Tabby

“But now you are again sleeping and no-one is watching your private entrance and exit.”

“For that I have my own human Mrs. Human, you. Just keep an eye on things and make sure that no intruders appear whilst I am sleeping. I just noticed that there are some twigs and stones on my path to the outside world. Perhaps you could make yourself useful in the meanwhile and clear them away. There is nothing worse than an unkempt exit to on my territorial sidewalk. And perhaps clean my cat flap, it has gathered some pawmarks.”

“Of course Tabby, your wish is my command.”

Please don’t take it personally, but if meow got round that a “dog” was guarding my territory, it might be the joke of the year and I would be relegated to the lowest rang of feline. Dogs are to be heard and seen, but not to be seen guarding feline territory.
