Daily Feline Prompt: Fragile Feline?

Tabby

“Tabby, are you sleeping?”

“What is that for a stupid question. Of course I am sleeping. I did my usual three circles to occupy the sleeping area, lowered myself to the cushion, cradled my head on my paws, curled the tail around it all and closed my eyes. I am now sleeping.”

“But if you were sleeping, you would not be able to carry on a convesation with me”

“Just because my eyes might be closed, my ears are not. I heard the telltale click of the telephone camera and realised you were again disturbing my necessary sleep. As the Dalai cat-ma said “Sleep is the best meditation” and he knew what he was dreaming about. I took a course on sleep preservation under his guidance and it was really good.”

“Did you learn a lot about sleep Tabby.?”

“Oh, yes, it was great. Just close your eyes and drift away, with an ear open of course. There are untold possibilities of going on a sleep marathon.”

“Tell me about it Tabby.”

“That is the problem Mrs. Human. That is not possible.”

“Were you sworn to secrecy.”

“Not really, but when you sleep for a few days and nights, you drift away to another dimension, you transform to other horizons, your paws learn the paths of the dormant elite, you become an existential fact in a realm of nocturnal transcendence and you tend to forget what it was all about.”

“Tabby, I think you lost me on the way.”

“We felines are  fragile creatures, we must submit to the sleep and let it take us where it goes. Humans tend to tell sleep where to go and it if doesn’t go anywhere then they have their problems with not being able to sleep. Have you ever met a feline that suffers from insomnia Mrs. Human?”

“No, not really, just humans that suffer from insomnia because their felines tend to wake them with scratches at their bedroom door early in the morning.”

“Ah yes, that is the core of the problem. Felines think and plan and humans need the felines as a guidance in their world. It is the plain theory of master and slave.”

“Ok tabby, I will not ask who is who, that might lead to a disagreement.”

  1. Dear Tabby, “…when you sleep for a few days and nights, you drift away to another dimension, you transform to other horizons, your paws learn the paths of the dormant elite, you become an existential fact in a realm of nocturnal transcendence and you tend to forget what it was all about.” Tabby, this is really difficult for me to understand. I suppose I’ll have to go in search of the Dog-lai Lama to understand that at all. Unfortunately, my human has me enclosed in very high fences. My sister Mindy says I don’t have to go anywhere, I just need to follow her example of sleeping all day, and smiling benificently at everyone when I’m awake. I think she’s some kind of Buddog. I very much admire your transcendental abilities. Yours forever and ever on any plane, Dusty T. Dog

It is quite straight forward really. If there is a scarcity of doggy biscuits and you water bowl is empty because you have eaten and drunk it all they sleep. In the meanwhile humans will be preparing the next meal. If the next meal is not ready when you awake then sleep further. We felines are in training permanently for such emergency situations and we have come to the conclusion that sleep is the best way of coming to grips with life. If you are awake and the biscuits have not yet arrived, in your case I would bark very loudly and encourage the others in your canine family to do the same. Eventually the human element will realised it is time for a dog bisuit. We feline are more delicate in our eating habits. We always leave a remainder for later.
I know life can get complicated around the humans, but we must have patience and persevere with lower kinds of animal life.
Thinking of you and the bisuit bag, Tabby T. Cat

  2. I think Bonnie and Gibbs have been reading Tabby’s advice. They certainly do not suffer from insomnia, although they are currently having a serious, ongoing battle with the throw cushions. No matter how many times they beat those cushions into submission, they get back up on the sofa again. In between battles, however they refresh themselves with sleep, and occasion dip in the water bowl, and a few crunchy biscuits. It’s a hard life.
