Daily Feline Prompt: Feline Silence

Tabby

“You look very thoughtful on that photo Tabby. Tabby, Tabby – can you hear me?”

“Of course I can hear you Mrs. Human, but today is a day of silence.”

“You are not meowing today.”

“No, it is international feline day of silence.”

“You have a celebration?”

“Shhhh.”

“But Tabby, tell me all about your day of silence.”

“How can I tell you about a day of silence, when I should observe the day by being silent.”

“But you are not being silent at the moment.”

“Because you are again asking silly questions and I am answering them. And now, for some silence.”

“What is the idea of holding a day of silence Tabby?”

“Do I ask you why you celebrate 1st August, although that is not silence, it is filled with noise from fireworks.”

“1st August in the Swiss national day, when we celebrate the foundation of our country. Is the feline international day of silence to celebrate the foundation of the feline race.”

“Of course not. The feline race existed from the beginning.”

“In that case it is Bastet’s birthday.”

“Bastet does not have a birthday, she is an incarnation, an appearance, a deity that is always there for us. No, the feline international day of silence is a day of rest, of sleep, meditation and contemplation, of doing nothing.”

“But you sleep every day, and do not work or do anything.”

“And? Such occasions must be celebrated to ensure they are not forgotten.”

“And how are you going to celebrate.”

“By being silent, sleeping and doing nothing, unless you tempt me with a bowl of tuna fish.”

“And then you will no longer observe the international feline day of silence.”

“Of course not. There would be no reason to do so. It would be postponed.”

“I don’t quite understand that.”

“Mrs. Human, just serve the tuna fish and then we can forget the whole thing – until the next time.”

      • Bear agrees. Her breakfast now is a can of tuna poured over a cup of kibble. Dusty doesn’t know why Tabby doesn’t employ Bear’s stragedy of going on a hunger strike until tuna appears regularly, so if Tabby DOES begin rejecting her kibble, you’ll know who to blame. “You’ll have no one to blame by yourself, Mrs. Human.” Uh oh…

        • I searched through my Meow-human dictionary, but could not find a translation for “hunger strike” and I think the problem is that it does not exist in meow, because it is not a condition that felines recognise as such. I found paw strike but no hunger strike.

          • Dear Tabby, A hunger strike is when a creatures stops eating in protest to maltreatment. My little sister Bear thought our human was cruel NOT to give her tuna every morning, so she stopped eating breakfast and just leaned against our human, looking up at her sadly. I don’t think I could’ve gotten by with that, but then our human knows I like kibble just fine. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. Dog
