Daily Feline Prompt: The Daring Feline

Do I look daring
Do I look tough
I think things over
I am no longer so rough

In my younger days
of the kittenhood dreams
I would jump for a fly
They were tasty it seems

If the going was good
I might catch a mouse
But Mrs. Human put her foot down
Said “not in this house”

I was only being kind
I was proud of my catch
I wanted to show my daring
I did not even scratch

I once chased a dog
But was to no avail
He was bigger than me
And he almost caught my tail

Today I just sleep
I am biding my time
There is a bird in a tree
I am too tired to climb

  1. If I were a little cat
    I’d catch grasshoppers
    Just like that

But I am a big white dog
And all the grasshoppers get away all the time.

Hi Tabby, That’s my little sister’s first attempt at doggerel. She read your poem and thought you’d probably enjoy chasing grasshoppers with her. Our human said that cats were better grasshopper hunters than dogs are and that made her want to tell you about it. When we go hiking, she tries all the time to catch grasshoppers but mostly fails. She also catches flies. She thinks you two might be soulmates. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. Dog

When I was a kitten I would catch and eat a fly now and again, but my mum said it was beneath my dignity and I should aim for the big game animals, so I progressed to butterflies. I caught a grasshopper once and I must say it was very tasty. Today I almost caught a mouse, but Mr. Human saw me and chased it away – no feline understanding. I am not sure about the soul mate thing, do lotus blossoms spring out of the ground when she walks?
Have a nice day, don’t bark too loud, I can hear you from my side of the pond – Tabby T. Cat
