Daily Feline Prompt: Felines see everything

There are things that move that I can see
Mrs. Human despairs, it cannot be
I am feline and see in the dark
Our eyes are all seeing, oh yes what a lark
There goes an ant, crawling to its nest
A beetle is eating, and taking a rest
I can see movement behind a stalk
Oh Yes, of course, a bug taking a walk
A bat flies past, looking for food
It pounces on a beetle and is in a good mood
I watch behind the window, I am the spy
It is the feline duty, that is the reason why
I am protecting my land, my profile is low
I am now safe, even from snow
I now close my eyes for a 14 hour sleep
There are things happening outside, my secrets to keep

  1. I am a dog
    My ears and my nose
    Tell me exactly
    Where everyone goes.
    I see the squirrel
    Steal the bird food
    I try to get him
    But he’s gone for good
    Up the electric pole
    Up in the trees
    If there weren’t a fence
He’d be down on his knees.
    We animals have
    a big job to do
    Our humans are grateful
    To me and to you.

    • I gave you a meow
      just to show how
      You have left your mark
      With a wonderful bark
May the squirrels be yours that play on the tree
I take the mice, I am sure you agree

  2. The personification of animals, especially those so close to humans is always interesting. The only thing I’d say here, is that the speaker’s voice lacks tone and personality; instead is observing in an objective, factual manner. It seems almost too human, understanding the concept of time (14 hours sleep).A little more ‘cat’ needed! I am usually more keen on free-verse but I enjoyed your use of rhyme here very much.
