Daily Feline Prompt: Measuring a feline

“Tabby stop gripping on that ruler.+

“I do not know what a ruler is, but I am sure I can have fun playing with it. Look, it moves when I touch it. I wonder if I can eat it.”

“No Tabby, that is not a feline toy or food, I wanted to measure you.”

“No, no way. It sounds almost like something a vet might do.”

“Tabby, it will not hurt, I want to see how long you are.”

“I know how long I am.”

“Then tell me.”

“I am four paws long, plus my claws if I want to apply them for a purpose like climbing, or scratching.”

“Tabby, four paws is not a measurement. Now keep still and let me see. Yes, you are approimately 42 centimeters long in the body. Now for the tail.”

“Leave my tail alone, it is the only one I have.”

“It doesn’t hurt Tabby. Yes, it is 25 centimeters long, which makes a complete length of 67 cm.

“I know what you are planning Mrs. Human. You are at last buying me a diamond studied new cat flap and need  my exact body mass. How thoughtful.”

“No Tabby, I was just curious to know your dimensions.”

“Forget it.”

“Tabby stay here and stop hissing, what is the matter.”

“What is the matter? You know what is said Mrs. Human. There are things that should not be said or even mentioned.”

“Such as?”

“Curiosity killed the cat and I only have 5 lives left out of my 9. I have to be careful what I do with the remaining few.”

  1. Dear Tabby, What a strange thing for a human to do, but my human did measure me against my little sister and found I was smaller by something she calls “inches” and she said Bear is taller by 3 of these whatever they are. We canines come in all sizes and colors, and some of the fiercest are the smallest and silliest looking, such as my human’s mother’s toy poodle, Misty who is famous among canines for chasing three large dogs — as large as me — away from the walk way behind my human’s mother’s house. This is a legend and I’m honored that my own human was there to witness it. I’m sure the same is true in the feline world, size is not the only measure of ferocity. Yours forever and ever, Dusty T. you must know that Mrs.Human does anything to write something called a “prompt” and I am always the victim. We felines also come in various shapes and sizes, but the Tabby felines are the first. Our design is unique, and what other feline has a Madonalds “M” engraved on their forehead. We once had a naked feline living here, but no-one liked her. A feline without fur is like a human with carrot coloured hair, just plain stupid. Fluffy was the tallest of us all, he had very long legs, but he was lean. Nera, my litter sister, had short legs like me, but she compensated with her weight, although she always insisted it was just fluff. Size is never a measure of ferocity. This afternoon Roschti (who is bigger than me) had a misunderstanding with a new feline on the block who is half Roschti’s size, but they parted in peace. I think Roschti was a little worried he might lose – not good for his reputation.
